Just another walk with mei…

For most weekends if the weather permits, the laopeh will bring mei out for a walk / hike / cycle and explore different parts of Singapore.

Today we decided to explore the Siglap Park Connector starting from Bedok Reservoir. Started with a train ride to Bedok North station which is within the Bedok Reservoir estate. Bedok Reservoir station is actually beside THE BEDOK RESERVOIR but located at the edge of Bedok Reservoir estate. Confusing but anyway, we started off at Bedok North station.

As soon as we got out, a light drizzle began and we decided to brave it by cutting through the housing estate. Mei was excited over the many playgrounds available every few blocks and would do a slide, a short moment in the swing or anything within her reach. Our first check point is the overhead bridge over PIE near Blk 602.

That will be crossover point to the Kembangan estate and start of a straight path along the canal all the way towards East Coast Park. We then stopped for a quick roti prata brunch break along Changi Road before continuing to the Siglap section of the park connector.

And it’s HOT HOT HOT from here on until we reached ECP.

The plan was to continue on until the end of ECP but we were tired out due to the heat. We decided to get out of ECP near Parkland Green and head towards Parkway Parade. There is a new area at Parkland Green that’s very cool. An open area for dogs to run around and a new shop Petmaster that has an indoor pool just for dogs. We stopped for a while to enjoy seeing the cute dogs trying to swim to please their owners 😶

Just as we sat down to enjoy our ice-cream at Mac, it started pouring… oh well, just as well that we decided to cut short our walk.

We will try again next time starting from Kembangan MRT, onto Siglap Park Connector, complete ECP, and hopefully end at MBS for ice-cream.

The walk / urban hike route is secondary. What I enjoyed and appreciate most is the time to chat with mei. We simply chatted about anything that we saw along the way. When we saw the rows of private housing at Kembangan, I explained to her what a semi-detached is. When we saw a pair of twins, we talked about twins we spotted in school and how it took me one term to realise I was teaching twin brothers in the same class 😱

When we spotted a man jogging topless with tattoos, we talked about whether tattoos are permissible. When we saw the cute dogs, we decided it will be OUR DECISION TO ADOPT A DOG AND WE WILL INSIST ON IT despite objections from the mum (Say say only 😞)

After some Katong Laksa, we took a long bus ride home just so that we can both take a nap 😴

Started at 0940 at BN Station

Ended at 1215 at Parkway Mac

Total distance = 7km

Amount spent = less than $25

Value and memories = PRICELESS

Do you have any walking / hiking / cycling routes to share?
